Sponge sterile, absorbable gelatin, with a hemostatic action due to the homogeneous porous surface of the sponge. When in contact with blood, the high surface Spongostan leads to rapid disintegration of platelets, which releases thromboplastin to a normal clotting to occur.
Spongostan is non-toxic and causes no risk of allergic reactions. It adheres to the surface of the wound and absorbs about 50 times its own weight in blood.
It can be used dry or soaked in physiological saline or antibiotic. It has a neutral pH and can be easily cut into the desired shape. When Spongostan is introduced into the body, it is completely absorbed in the space of about 4 weeks without scarring.
