Glycerin suppositories can be used in order to obtain a transient constipation. Temporary relief
Dosage and method of administration:
1 to 2 suppositories for adults per day deep insertion into the anus.
Infants and children:
1 to 2 suppositories for babies and children every day deep insertion into the anus.
Repeated use in chronic constipation is to avoid any adaptation of diet and change in life habits is a better treatment.

Ileus and abdominal pain for which the cause is not known.
Acute exacerbations of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, hemorrhagic rectocolitis.

Whenever an abnormal pain or abnormal use effects (rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements) are observed, a thorough clinical examination should be performed.
Laxatives should not be used longer than one week without advice from your doctor.
Repeated use of glycerin suppositories can be avoided in chronic constipation. This can best be handled by adaptation of the diet and changes in living habits.
Interactions with other drugs and food:
With increased transit the absorption of other drugs may decrease.
Use during pregnancy and lactation:
There is no counter-indication for use of glycerin suppositories during pregnancy and lactation.
Glycerin may give a burning sensation at the level of the perianal skin, in certain patients, for rectal use.
If acute major diarrhea would occur, the hydro-electrolyte needs to be restored.
In case of accidental ingestion:
If glycerin is taken orally large quantities can be toxic and may hemolysis, hemoglobinemie, headache, nausea, thirst and renal disorders occur.
Oral overdoses dehydration can occur. One should proceed to set up a rehydration therapy and restore the electrolyte balance.
