Altisa Copper (bisglycinate) ALBION 2mg provides copper in the most absorbable and bioavailable bisglycinate form (ALBION) (this is copper chelated with glycine in the form of bisglycinate chelate). The bisglycinate form of copper is recommended for targeted supplementation of this essential trace element.

Copper (Cu) is one of the most abundant trace elements in the human body. The human body utilizes the unique properties of the Cu2+/Cu+ redox couple to synthesize enzymes of oxidative metabolism. It is also a component of ceruloplasmin, a protein that delivers Cu to target organs and is essential for Fe utilization. It thus participates in biological functions related to growth and development, such as cartilage quality, bone mineralization, normal nervous system function (nerve myelination, neurotransmitter regulation), the normal functioning of the immune system, and iron transport and metabolism. Elaborate homeostatic regulation mechanisms allow for the adjustment of intestinal absorption, utilization, and excretion of Cu, depending on its availability and reserves. These mechanisms are now well described and involve cation transporters, metallothioneins, and specific ATPases.
