How to use:

Can I take more than the normal dosage to get faster relief?

This is not recommended. An increase of the recommended dosage in general will not accelerate the effect and can perhaps even have negative effects. The dosage that is indicated on the instruction leaflet or that has been recommended by your doctor or pharmacist is best for the type and severity of your ailment potential causes and helpful treatments for this very common health problem.
How long can I take Buscopan®? BUSCOPAN® should not be taken on a continuous daily basis or for extended periods without investigating the cause of abdominal pain.
Is it safe to take Buscopan® during pregnancy or lactation?As a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid the use of BUSCOPAN® during pregnancy and lactation.

Take 1 tablet of Buscopan Forte 20 mg 3 to 5 times a day. Swallow with water.
Suitable for children from 6 years and adults.
Do not use for more than 7 days without consulting a doctor.

HOW SHOULD BUSCOPAN FORTE BE TAKED?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:

Adults: 1 film-coated tablet, 1 to 5 times daily, but no more than 100 mg (= 5 tablets) per day. Swallow the tablets whole with some liquid.

Use in children

Children over 6 years: See adults.

Buscopan Forte is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.

This medication should not be used for longer than 7 days without medical advice.

Long-term use of Buscopan Forte:

The duration of treatment should not exceed that of the symptoms in order to avoid constipation (decrease in bowel tone) caused by the preparation.

Buscopan Forte should not be used daily for extended periods without investigating the cause of the abdominal cramps.

If you have used a larger amount of Buscopan Forte than you should

If you have used or taken too much Buscopan Forte, contact your doctor, pharmacist, or the Poison Control Center immediately (070/245.245). Symptoms of an overdose are described in section 4 ("What are the possible side effects?").

If you have forgotten to use Buscopan Forte

Do not apply twice the amount if you forgot the previous application.

If you stop using Buscopan Forte

Use Buscopan Forte only for acute symptoms. You can stop using the medicine at any time.

If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

What Buscopan Forte contains

The active ingredient is: Butylhyoscine bromide 20 mg

The other ingredients are: povidone – lactose monohydrate (see section 2 "Buscopan Forte must not be taken") – microcrystalline cellulose – magnesium stearate – Opadray II

Buscopan Forte must not be taken,

• if you are allergic to butylhyoscine bromide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.

• if you suffer from the following conditions:

– Prostatic adenoma (benign tumor of the prostate), hypertrophy (enlargement) of the prostate with urinary retention (inability to empty the bladder)

– untreated narrow-angle glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure)

– Narrowing of the stomach, sluggish bowel movements (reduced intestinal tone), mechanical stomach and intestinal obstruction (suspected or confirmed blockage in the intestine), a condition in which the intestine is blocked and its function is impaired (paralytic or obstructive ileus) – symptoms include severe abdominal pain in combination with lack of stool and/or nausea/vomiting – megacolon (severe dilation of the colon)

– pathologically elevated heart rate

– severe myasthenia gravis (abnormal muscle fatigue)

– rare hereditary intolerance to certain sugars (See section 2, "Buscopan Forte contains lactose").
